Passage: Exodus 32:1-4
The first two commandments are pretty clear – no other gods and no graven images. Seems pretty easy to grasp. So what in the world is going on when the Israelites decide to ditch God and Moses and start dancing around a golden statue of a calf? Have they lost their minds? How could they be so close to God one day and so far away the next? Who would turn their back on God so quickly? Who could forget God's powerful deliverance and turn instead to something that is powerless? Is anyone else starting to feel convicted besides me?
This weekend we are going to be honest about how easy it is to walk away and find a substitute for God. Then we'll explore practical steps we can take to deal with anything that steals our devotion from the one who loves us more deeply than we could ever love him in return.
