There are certain portions of scripture that I like to obey. Not murdering… Keeping my tongue in check… Loving my wife. I enjoy obeying them because my life is better when I do what God has asked. However, there are some parts of scripture where I find myself getting tripped up. Turning the other cheek… Loving my enemies… Praying for people who hurt me. This tension has led me to a powerful realization: my spiritual maturity is directly proportional to the command of God that I obey the least. I'm going to unpack a "stumble" that seems to trip up even the most mature and spiritual people. My approach will be simple: read what the Bible says and then ask, "Are we obedient?" God has promised that if we say "yes" to what He has asked, our obedience will keep us from stumbling.
