She is virtually unnoticed in the Christmas story. We only see her in a few verses but her role in the Incarnation is powerful. The Bible says she was faithful to God her whole life, but there was still a hole in her soul. For decades, this woman named Elizabeth had asked God for the desire of her heart: a baby. I'm sure that the many years of unanswered prayer had changed her. While it appears that God's answers of "no" or "not yet" had actually shaped her character, softened her heart and allowed her to become a woman of grace, I'm also sure that the unanswered prayer had left her sad. I want Elizabeth to speak to those of us who are asking for a Christmas miracle. I want her to show us how to exchange sadness for joy.
