Throughout the Bible God’s people thanked him for what he had done. There were planned festivals dedicated to remembering what he had done, and there were spontaneous celebrations too! It was a regular part of the rhythm of life to celebrate God. We get so busy, we often struggle to do that. But celebration brings joy and contentment to our lives and helps us keep our eyes on God.
For Individuals
If you have 5-10 minutes
Spend a few minutes this week noticing things you can praise God for. Family, friends, your home, health, your church, sunshine, clean air…whatever you can think of. Make a list and add to it whenever you are able to. Thank God for all he has done and all he has given you.
If you have a bit more time
In the Bible, people would use physical things to remind themselves of what God had done. Try the same thing yourself. If you feel thankful for how faithful God is, plant something that will grow in your yard and remind you of his faithfulness. Maybe put a small succulent beside your bed to remind you how God is always near you. Find a tangible way to remember what God is up to, so you can continually be reminded to celebrate.
For SMALL GROUPS
Throw a party as a small group to celebrate all the ways God is moving in your group members’ lives! If you can meet in person, have a potluck or BBQ. If your group meets virtually, have everyone make a celebratory dessert and eat it “together”! Do something fun and creative, and spend time sharing with each other how God is working and celebrate all that he is up to.
FOR FAMILIES
Spend one mealtime this week celebrating. Talk about what good things you see God doing in your family. Point out his blessings — even the meal together could be worth celebrating! Or make a celebration board where you write down things throughout the week that you want to celebrate. Sing, dance, make a ton of noise to express thankfulness to God! Let celebrating God become one of the most joyful moments in your home.
If you’re ready for more
Keep celebrating regularly. Find new ways to express thankfulness to God and to enjoy his presence. If you don’t regularly sing or dance to celebrate God, give that a try. You can do it alone if that feels better, but try expressing your gratefulness in a new way for all that God is doing.
