DAY OF PRAYER letter
May 2026
Meaningful Transitions
Pastor Carrie Butler
Faithful Intercessors,
As we move through this beautiful spring season, we find ourselves in a meaningful transition as some of our ministry rhythms are beginning to wind down, while others are building momentum. These in-between moments remind us that God is present in both the endings and the beginnings, faithfully guiding us every step of the way.
Scripture encourages us in this truth: “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:19). Even as some things come to a close, we trust that God is already preparing what’s next, cultivating new opportunities for connection, growth, and transformation within our church family. We give thanks for all that he has done in this past season - the prayers prayed, the relationships deepened, and the ways hearts have been stirred toward him. These are seeds planted in faith, and we trust he will continue to bring growth.
At the same time, we look ahead with expectation. The Postal Food Drive Sorting week, CTK Farm and various Response Team projects invite us to step in with open hearts and willing spirits. As it says in Galatians 6:9, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” This is an invitation to remain faithful, engaged, and hopeful in all that God is doing among us and in Whatcom County.
Would you join us in prayer during this season of transition? Pray for renewed energy for those working and serving, for people to respond to the needs, and for fresh vision for what’s ahead. Ask that we would be a people who respond quickly to the Spirit’s leading - whether that means resting, serving, giving, or simply being present.
The same God who has been faithful in past seasons is leading us forward now. May we trust him fully, celebrate his goodness, and step boldly into all he has prepared.
If you’d like additional guidance for praying for our community and the world, consider picking up a 24-7 Prayer guide to focus on a specific topic.
With expectation,
Carrie

CHRIST THE KING PRAYER GUIDE
CTK Staff (from Melonie Kemp, Executive Pastor)
Thank you for faithfully praying. In Paul's analogy of the Church being like a body and each part being important for the body to function, I have always seen prayer warriors as the backbone of the body of Christ. Without the backbone, the body cannot hold itself up. Thank you for being the backbone of CTK.
Here are a few things to pray for our staff teams:
- The month of May can be a tough month for ministry staff. While ministry happens year round, the January-June stretch is particularly challenging because there is no natural break in the schedule to come up for air. So many are weary. Please pray for physical and spiritual stamina and for good health.
- We seem to have shared a record number of illnesses with each other this year. Many on staff are battling minor illnesses like stomach bugs, and colds with coughs that won't let you rest. Some have more serious, chronic health challenges that they contend with on an ongoing basis. Thank you for praying for renewed health and for healing.
- So you can imagine- weariness combined with health or relational challenges, nerves can become frayed and one can easily lose hope. Thank you for praying for the spiritual protection of our staff, and that the enemy would gain no foothold and work his deceit in us and amongst us. It is so easy to fall prey to this when we are run down. Thank you for praying against this and for us!
- Josh Lease (our Student Ministries pastor) and his wife Mae will be moving to Portland in June. Mae will be working at Bridgetown Church. Please pray for a smooth transition for them. Josh will be taking some time for rest and for listening with the Lord for what He has next for him. They are family and will be deeply missed! Please pray for Josh's replacement. Josh is a unique gift to the Body of Christ. So we are listening to the Lord together for what He has next for students at CTK.
- Finally, please pray for Angel Finsrud. Her cancer is growing again, so she will begin her third set of chemo rounds on May 11th. She has defied the odds, with her particular cancer, over and over again in many ways. Thank you for praying to the Lord who heals, for her continued healing. Please pray for physical stamina as her body battles both the cancer and the chemo. Pray that the chemo would do what is necessary, no more and no less. Pray for continued hope and vision for a future for Angel.
Thank you, Backbone!
Worship & Creative (from Ivelice Cuenca, Worship Pastor)
- As we transition into mid-week rehearsals, please pray that what we’re hoping to see would truly take root - that these spaces would foster deeper community, growth in skill, and a greater attentiveness to the Holy Spirit as we learn, serve, and lead together!
Adults + Young Adults (from Julie Burleson, Lead Adults Pastor)
- The Adults and Young Adults teams are celebrating our Spring 2026 Alpha class, which is going strong. We are so excited to see people continually grow closer to Jesus throughout their time in Alpha. We would love prayer for our ability to help participants find their right next step after Alpha ends. We would also love prayer for endurance for the adults team, as the spring quarter is long after a long winter quarter and Easter season. We are looking forward to summer but thankful to be serving Jesus as we are in the spring!
UNITED / Students (from Josh Lease, Students Pastor)
- Pray for current 5th graders to feel so welcomed at Future Night on May 26th! Pray they feel celebrated and wanted in the MSU community.
- Pray for 8th graders graduating, that they transition well into high school and also feel welcomed and wanted in that community.
- Pray for someone to replace my role who is a perfect fit for our community at this place and time.
- Pray for new volunteers to join our MSU and HSU community next school year! Pray for people who love Jesus and want to invest in and care for students.
- Pray for Go Camp! Registration opens on May 20th. Pray that God would move powerfully and that students would surrender to Him and trust Him leaving camp as well.
- Pray for us to raise $12,000 to fundraise for Go Camp so it lowers the cost for students.
- Pray for graduating seniors. That they would be honored and cared for as they transition to the next season of life.
- Pray for Ashley Ask, one of our seniors, who will be serving as a missionary in the Philippines after graduating. She will be serving as a midwife! Pray for her to get fully funded as she is raising support.
Kids & Family (from Duane Weaver, Children’s Pastor)
- We are celebrating the conclusion of our second year of Encounter Crews, our midweek discipleship ministry for elementary-aged students. It has been a privilege to see the children grow closer to Jesus and their fellow students. As summer approaches, we anticipate needing an influx of volunteer teachers and support staff to keep our classrooms open and welcome all children, as many of our regular volunteers will need time off for summer and family activities.
Prayer (from Carrie Butler, Prayer Pastor)
- I’m deeply grateful for the sixty people of all ages who participated in the Watch & Wait Prayer Night, and for the powerful impact of the Good Friday healing prayer service, where many courageously stepped forward to both receive prayer and pray for one another. Please pray that the faith and encouragement that grew in those spaces would continue to deepen and multiply, and that our church family would be open and expectant, ready to step into even more opportunities to respond to God and receive from Him, especially as we look ahead to the All Campus Worship Night on May 29th.
Blessing (from Nathan Ford, Outreach Team Director)
- For our team, the big thing on all our minds is the Postal Drive. Of course prayers for a smooth project and that each sorting day goes well. But I think from our team specifically, the prayer is that we are still able to lift up and out to see what God is doing. It can be so easy for us to get fixated on the logistics of everything that we fail to encounter the people showing up and acknowledge the presence of the Spirit at work. So, prayers for abundant opportunity and clear eyes to see.
