They seem too complex, too intimidating, even too painful to discuss. As Christians, our desire to be at peace with others can easily lead us into the trap of silence. Tragically, for people affected by these issues, our fear of the forbidden can leave them feeling more isolated than ever. But the Church doesn't have to be afraid of taboo topics. Jesus knew we'd face troublesome things in this world, and he addressed sensitive subjects with courage, truth, and grace. Following his lead, maybe we can too.
