At CTK Downtown, we believe we have a vision from God: To be a diverse family shaped by the Word, empowered by the Spirit, sent into the World. This vision is both exciting and challenging, refreshing and risky.
It seems so simple, yet it calls all of us to grow. It calls us to grow and make room for the presence of God. It calls us to grow and include people who are different than us into God’s multi-ethnic family called the church.
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." – John 13:35
We believe whole-heartedly this vision is impossible without God's power teaching us how to love. But as we give up our preferences to make space for Jesus, we will find ourselves truly living as Jesus called us to: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:35).”
At CTK Downtown, we have four distinctives that guide who we are as a family:
We equip people through intentional relationships to know Christ, grow in maturity, and make disciples. This is an accountable relationship where we consistently practice the spiritual disciplines as a path of discipleship to Christ so that they can make more disciples.
We model biblical community through loving service to individuals, families, and the whole family of God. Our desire is to be a family that serves one another, spends time with one another, shares meals with one another, and loves one another so that authentic community is built.
We posture ourselves to love God with our heart, soul, mind, and strength through musical worship, study of scripture, prayer, and activity so that we build a lifestyle of serving God and others in every facet of life. This means that we reflect a lifestyle of holistic love for God through our feelings, thoughts, actions, and spirit.
We allow the power, love, compassion, justice, hope, grace, and beauty of Jesus to overflow from our church community, out into the world so that God’s Kingdom will come and God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven. This means we work to meet our communal and cultural needs with the love, wisdom, and power of God.
Leaders are healthy when their private, personal and public lives are surrendered and align with Jesus and His ways. We create sustainable, healthy growth by identifying, deploying, training and supporting those to serve as Jesus did.
We choose a simple approach to language, systems and processes. We work hard to make access to Jesus simple for everyone.
We choose to live lives of sacrificial generosity, by joyfully giving of our time, our abilities and our resources to love others in Jesus's name.
We value healthy, Christ-centered spiritual growth. We choose to be real with God, real with others, and real with ourselves. We will not live false, idealistic, or hidden lives.
We choose to be relational in ministry, communication, conflict, and decision making.
Because God loves every single person He's created, we are as committed to loving those outside CTK in the same genuine, tangible way that we love those within our family of faith.
