AS IN HEAVEN PRAYER GUIDE

During our As In Heaven series, we're going to practice focusing our prayer, approaching it from three directions: Upward, Inward, and Outward.

UPWARD

The connection to God the Father; our role as His servants, and His role as our provider.

INWARD

The reflection of Jesus in our hearts; what He has done and is doing in our lives and spirits.

OUTWARD

The work of the Holy Spirit through our actions; looking to the struggles and needs of others and how we can be used by God to do His work.

Weekly Prayer Guides

Spend a week on each of the following prayer focuses, reading the daily scripture listed and reflecting using the prompts for that day.

UPWARD

1 Chronicles 29:13 “Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.”

Monday
  • Commit to the Lord each day to Pray Upward in praise and thanksgiving to Him.
  • Pray through a Psalm of praise or Psalm of thanksgiving. Psalms 30
Tuesday
  • Prayer through a Psalm of Praise or Thanksgiving. Psalms 40
  • Write out 10 things that you can praise God for in your life today.
Wednesday
  • Prayer through a Psalm of Praise or Thanksgiving. Psalms 103
  • Use praise music or a hymn book to sing and turn it into prayer time.
Thursday
  • Prayer through a Psalm of Praise or Thanksgiving. Psalms 107
  • Set an alarm for prayer time (to challenge yourself, set several). When the alarm goes off no matter what you are doing, say a prayer of honor to God. It can be something as quick as “Praise you Lord God for loving me.”
Friday
  • Prayer through a Psalm of Praise or Thanksgiving. Psalms 118
  •  Lift your arms to God this morning and thank Him for getting you through your week. Make time at the end of the day today to reflect on this week and praise God for when you noticed He showed up in your life.
Saturday
  • Prayer through a Psalm of Praise or Thanksgiving. Psalms 135
  • Journal the times where you felt God's presence this week. List 3-5 things that God showed you this week, and lift those up to Him in praise.
Sunday
  • Prayer through a Psalm of Praise or Thanksgiving. Psalms 136
  • Attend Worship service and lift Jesus High!
INWARD

1 John 1:9 “If we tell Him our sins, He is faithful and we can depend on Him to forgive us of our sins. He will make our lives clean from all sin.” (NLT)

Confession allows us to experience the forgiveness of God, which was purchased by the death of Christ on the cross.
Monday

Read Psalm 51 today and then pray to the lord he will open your heart and mind to the sins you have committed so you may ask for forgiveness. Some sins of transgression toward others are so subtle we don't even know we are doing it. Ask the lord to show you those times so you may grow and be forgiven.

Tuesday

Today let's pay attention to our thoughts. Start the day by asking God to reveal to you throughout the day when you should ask for forgiveness for your thoughts and actions.

Wednesday

Practice silence today; Listen to what God is telling you, sit with your eyes closed for at least 60 seconds but no more than 5 minutes. For some that may be easy for others it will be tough, but just be still and silent with no music/tv or distractions on. Today it's all about listening to what the Lord is saying.

Thursday
  • Today begins with a blank piece of paper; practice the silence from yesterday, then ask God to reveal any sins in your life; any thought, any deed, any way you’ve ignored doing what God wanted you to do. As the Spirit brings areas of sin to mind, write them down.
  • Then write out 1 John 1:9. Thank God for Christ's death and resurrection so you could be forgiven.
  • Tear up the piece of paper with your list of sins.
  • Confess (agree with God) that your sins are forgiven–you are clean before God, and you are free.
Friday

Take action today while you declutter your soul from sin.

  • Go through your pantry or your closet and fill a bag or two for donation to The Bridge and bring it to church on Sunday.
  • Go through your coats:  is there a coat you can donate to the CAP Winter Coat drive?
  •  As you spend your time decluttering, think about all the ways or areas in your life where you have placed God second.
Saturday

Pause, Pray, Process. Today is all about reflection. The more mature we are in our faith, the more sensitive we become to the Holy Spirit’s nudging regarding sin in our lives. We see sin in areas we’ve never noticed before. And because we can see it, we can address it and grow.

  • How have you grown closer to God this week?
  • Do you feel stronger in your relationship with Him?
  • Thank God for opening your eyes this week and ask that He will continue to help you grow every day.
Sunday

Come to worship service humble and willing to surrender all to Jesus in Worship and be receptive of His Word.
